Points, exams and grades

Automatic final grade calculation

At the end of the semester nobody should be adding up points in Excel. In ISEUS you set how much each part of the course is worth, and the system turns attendance, activities and exams into a total and a suggested grade, the same for the student, the professor and the final sign-off.

How it works

  1. 01

    Course shares

Set the share of lectures, labs, activities and exams. The shares must add up to 100, and the course check warns you if they do not.

  2. 02

    Points are scaled

Each result is calculated as points divided by the maximum, multiplied by its share, and rounded to two decimals.

  3. 03

    Additional points

Add or remove additional points with a comment. Removing points requires a short reason that the student can see.

  4. 04

    The grade

The total is the sum of the rounded parts, capped at 100. Grades on the 6 to 10 scale: 55 points 6, 65 points 7, 75 points 8, 85 points 9, 95 points 10.

What each role gets

Professor

One rule for everything: what the student sees, what your report shows and what is signed off is always the same number.

Assistant

The points you enter show up in the total right away, with no extra emails or merged spreadsheets.

Student

At any time you see your points per part of the course and your suggested grade.

Frequently asked questions

How is a student’s final grade calculated in ISEUS?

Each part of the course has its share (100 in total). Results are scaled to that share, rounded to two decimals and added up together with additional points. The total is capped at 100 and the grade is read from the 6 to 10 scale.

Can points have decimals?

Yes, up to two decimals. Passing is always checked on the unrounded points.

Can the total go above 100 points?

No. No entered result can exceed the maximum of its item, and the sum including additional points is capped at 100.

Can I deduct points?

Yes. Additional points can be negative, with a short required reason the student can see. For positive additional points you can set a maximum per course.
