Points, exams and grades

Partial exams, exam periods and door checks

An exam in ISEUS can be one final exam or the sum of partial exams. The rule is simple: if a student passes every partial, the exam is passed and its points are the sum of the partials. If any partial is failed, the student can sit the full exam in a later period.

How it works

  1. 01

    Create an exam period

Create the period, then its exams and partial exams with maximum and minimum points, and a date and room per group.

  2. 02

    Set the conditions

Set the registration deadline, the withdrawal deadline, prerequisite exams and how long a passed result stays valid.

  3. 03

    Check at the door

The student shows their exam pass (a QR code that changes every 30 seconds) and the instructor scans it to see whether they are eligible. Entering twice is blocked.

  4. 04

    Results and the next period

Enter results by hand or import them from Excel. Copy the exam into the next period and choose what carries over: nothing, only a passed exam, or every passed partial.

What each role gets

Professor

No manual check of who may sit the exam and no adding up partials in a spreadsheet. The same rule applies in every view.

Assistant

You register the students of your groups, run partial exams and enter results for your students.

Student

Register and withdraw yourself before the deadline, see your results and, within the allowed time, cancel a result.

Frequently asked questions

How is an exam made of partial exams graded?

If a student passes every partial (points equal to or above that partial’s minimum), the exam is passed and its points are the sum of the partials. If any partial is failed, the exam is not passed through partials and the student sits the full exam.

Can passed partial exams carry over to the next exam period?

Yes, if the professor chooses so when copying the exam: carry over nothing, only a passed exam, or every passed partial that is still valid. Cancelled and expired results never carry over.

How do I check students at the exam door?

The student opens their exam pass in the app and the instructor scans it with a phone. The system shows whether the student is eligible and does not allow a second entry.

What does cancelling a result mean?

Within a deadline set by the professor, a student can cancel their result. A cancelled result never counts as passed and adds no points.
